New Canaan Reservoir
The New Canaan Reservoir, which was
acquired by the Second Taxing District Water Department (STDWD) in 1992,
is located in New Canaan off of Oenoke Ridge Road and has a storage
capacity of 127 million gallons. From 1898 to 1985 the reservoir served as
the primary source of supply for the New Canaan Water Company. Water from
the reservoir flows through the New Canaan Diversion Line, a 16-inch
ductile iron water main, into City Lake. The reservoir was purchased by
the STDWD to increase the total watershed supply in order to meet the
system demand for water. The diversion line is only open when City Lake
falls below 75% capacity, which normally occurs during the hotter months. |
